Give Us Your Kids

We have a dream to provide kaupapa Māori out-of-school childcare. The name of our kaupapa was created by a group of rangatahi who were supporting us with scoping this kaupapa in 2024 - it gets straight to the point and is a bit fun/cheeky, which is a vibe we think works well.

When we checked with whānau in 2024, they let us know that there were no options for tamariki in Ōtautahi to attend either bilingual or full immersion out-of-school care. Research within our hapori has shown a strong demand from our whānau for their tamariki to engage in this kind of kaupapa, so we are currently working on a few pilot programmes, called Give Us Your Kids, to test delivery of this kaupapa. We hope that the pilots are well received by our whānau and hapori during 2025, and that we are able to offer more ongoing programmes from 2026 and beyond.

We are grateful for funding support from the DIA, Wayne Francis Charitable Trust, the Rātā Foundation and Reo Māori Mai.

Te Tīma | The Team

Give Us Your Kids is run by our awesome Kaiwhakahaere, Erin Hapi, with support from a range of Kaitiaki Tamariki.

Everyone connected to Give Us Your Kids will complete comprehensive Police vetting processes and character checks to ensure we have the best humans possible to support our kaupapa and care for your tamariki.

Kaitiaki Tamariki

There is an additional layer to Give Us Your Kids: an opportunity for rangatahi Māori aged 14-24 to gain training, development and work experience in the role of Kaitiaki Tamariki.

We have seen the challenge for our rangatahi from Māori Medium education attempting to enter the workforce, often in environments that don’t value or nurture their ahurea Māori and unique pūkenga. Give Us Your Kids provides a space for rangatahi to earn income, grow their employable work skills and still ‘be Māori’.

If you or someone you know would be suitable for/interested in working for this kaupapa, we have an Expression of Interest form here.
